Badagao Jain Tirth - Uttar Pradesh

 

 

Badagao is a small town situated 5 Kilometers from Khekra Town. Badagao is connected via road from Khekra Town. This place is only famous for one of the most illustrious Jain Temple. According to the local myth this temple was supposed to be one of centuries and millennium old huge magnificent Temple in the region, but due to natural calamity and change of time descended in to the ground and disappeared.

However during early 20th century Ailak Anantkirti (a Jain Priest) got self-intuition about the existence of such temple at this place. He then initiated research at this place. Later as a result of excavation 10 Jain Idols were received buried under the ground, out of which 7 were made of stone and 3 were made of metal. Among these idols one diamond idol with five fingers found Khandit (broken idols which can not be worshipped) left in to the river Yamuna. There is no evidence left on metal idols but 5 stone idols has inscription of 12th and 13th century. Later in year xxxx a new Jain Temple was built.

This temple is closed from four sides and has shikhar band (hollow conical top) on top. At centre there is white stone idol of Bhagvan Shri Parshnath Jiis sitting since xxxx prior to the construction of the temple. This idol has its unique importance due to its exquisiteness, also this idol was found in the wellspring, which is inside this temple now. Another brass idol is also sitting at the centre with stone idol.

At four corner of this temple, there are four small temples with similar Shikharband.

In east temple also called vedi, is Bhagvan Shri Rishabhdev Ji, Adinath Ji idol of 15th century found buried underground.

In south vedi is light brown colour stone idol with few fingures broken. It is difficult to tell whose idol, but it is believed that this is the idol of Bhagvan Shri Vimalnath Ji. Inscription on this idol is from year xxxx.

In west vedi is white stone Bhagvan Shri Parshnath Ji idol. There are other bronze idols in all four directions in this vedi and two more bronze idol, all found buried underground.
