Seth Lalchand Hirachand
Philathropist and a leading industrialist of the country Seth Lalchand Hirachand of Bombay belongs to the illustrious family of Seth Hirachand Nemchand.
Seth Lalchand Hirachand was born on 24th October, 1904 at Sholapur where he was brought up and educated up to matric. He got his B.A. Degree from Deccan College, Poona.
He married with Smt. Lalitabai in June 1931 from whom he got three sons and a daughter.
As a leading industrialist of the country, his interest covers a wide field viz. automobiles, construction, engineering, sugar, etc.
Seth Lalchand Hirachand is Chairman of The Premier Construction Co. Ltd., The Walchandnagar Industries Ltd., and The Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd.
He was President of Automotive Manufacturers' Association of India during 1954-1958, Association of Indian Automotive Manufacturers in 1960, Indian Merchants' Chamber in 1959, Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce for 4 years from 1961, Indian sugar Mills Association 1943-44, Deccan Sugar Factories Association during 1943-46 and Deccan Sugar Technologists Association during 1943-50. He was a member of the Development Council for Machine Tools Industry and of the Import Advisory Council of the Govt. of India.
Seth Lalchand was a Member of the Rajya Sabha from 1952 to 58 and a Member of the Bombay Legislative Council elected in 1939. He was also the President of Swatantra Party, Bombay Region from 1969 to 71.
He has widely travelled in the world. He first attended the Moscow International Economic Conference in 1952.
He is member of the Cricket Club of India, Willingdon Sports Club, etc. He is actively interested in agricultural, industrial and social activities. He was President of All India Digamber Jain Tirthakshetra Committee since 1972 to 1983 and is actively connected with a number of charitable institutions.
