Ramsan - Jain Tirth - Bh. Adinath

Location : Ramsan, Gujarat

Shri Adinath Temple is situated in Ramsan, a small Village situated south of Dhanera in Banaskantha district of Gujarat. The ancient name of the Village was Ramsainyapur.

According to local tradition Jain King Samprati Maharaj consecrated the statue of Sri Adeshwar and other Jain idols in a magnificent Jain temple around 2200 years ago. Later, in the year 1084 VS (1027 CE), under the auspicious guidance of Jain Acharya Sri Sarvadevsuriji, King Raghusen renovated this ancient temple and got all the idols formally installed.

Ramsan Village was demolished during the reign of the Muslim Badshahs. At that time in order to save the majestic idols of this temple, it is said that Rajput Kshemsingh sacrificed his life. The statue of this Kshemsingh still stands in the the temple. Soon after, this town was completely destroyed.

In 1931 Ramsan Jain Sangh renovated the ruined Jain derasar and re-installed all the idols. Among these statues an image of Shri Adinath Bhagwan and Ambika Mataji, which is believed to be about 2200 years old, is preserved in the lower area of the Jinalay (Jain temple). The Shikharbandh Jinalay above the building was constructed in the year 1999. At that time the mentioned statue of Adinath Bhagwan was brought from the basement and installed as Mulnayak. The Tirth also has an idol of Shri Manibhadra Veer.
