Bhairu Bagh Jain Tirth - Bh. Parshwanath
Jodhpur, Rajasthan
The Bhairu Bagh temple at Jodhpur, called 'Surya Nagari' is a famous pilgrimage centre for Jains. This temple of Shri Parshwa Nath Bhagwan was built in Samvat 1888 by a Jain Yati, named Bhairavi Chand on a 20 Bigha piece of land donated to him by the then Maharaja of Marwar. The temple was just on the out-skirts of the walled city and it attracted large number of devotees for worship. The work of renovating this temple and expanding the premises was taken up there-after by the inspiration of Acharya Shri Vijay Vallabh Suri Ji Maharaj in Samvat 1988. A Dharm-shala was also built for the pilgrims coming from out-side. The expansion and renovation work was completed in 1998 and re-installation (Pratishtha) of the temple was carried out in the holy presence of Acharya Shri Vijay Labdhi Surishwar Ji Maharaj. Thereafter, the development work of the temple complex and the facilities therein has been going on continuously. In the year 1994, Golden Jubilee of the temple after its re-installation was celebrated. The temple is built on two stories, the ground floor having the idol of Shri Parshwa Nath Ji installed in standing position along-with the images of Shri Gautam Swami and deity Bhairu Ji and the first floor which houses the main temple, has the idols of Parshwa nath Ji and other Tirthankars in sitting posture.
The number of devotees and pilgrims visiting the temple has been fast-increasing with the enhanced transportation facilities, in terms of railway connections, roadways and air-lines. This is the only place in the whole town where adequate boarding and lodging facilities are available for Jain community, not only for pilgrims but also for patients coming for treatment in local hospitals and for visitors coming to the town for various reasons.
