Glorious Poet of Rajasthan
A glorious poet of Rajasthan, Pt. Khushal Chand Kala was born to his parents Sunderdas and Smt. Sujande. He had devoted more than 20 years of his life to literary creations. His ancestors belonged to village Todaraisingh and had later settled in Jaisinghpura at Delhi, where Shri Kala is believed to have been born around 1698. He received his early education at Delhi. Later he had gone to Sanganer with Bhattarak Devendrakirti where he had studied Jain religion under poet Lakshmidas Chandwad. He went back to Jaisinghpura where he received patronage of Gokulchand Jain, who lived with a rich businessman Sukhanand. He used to read Shastra for Gokulchand and at his instance had written Harivansha Puran in 1723. In his works he has praised Maharaja Jaisingh and Sanganer and the religious celebrations held there.
Harivansha Puran, Yashodhar Charit, Padam Puran, Vrat Katha Kosh, Jambooswami Charit, Dhanya Kumar Charit, Sad Bhashitawali, Uttar Puran, Chaubis Maharaj Puja, Shantinath Puran are his traceable works so far. Harivansha Puran an epic on the life of Bhagwan Neminath, is known as Jain Mahabharat.
With his literary creation Shri Kala had developed an awakening not only in the Jain society of Rajasthan but in the whole of Northern India.
