Mahavira Bhawan
Chandni Chowk, Delhi
Situated on the Main Road of Chandni Chowk, the Mahavir Bhawan is one of Delhi's oldest Sthanak for the Swetambar Jains' (followers of the order of white garments). It is famous among the natives by the name of 'Baradari'.
This bhawan was built in the year 1910 by late Shri Gokul Chand Nahar and is presently managed by the Shri S. S. Jain Bhawan (Baradai) Trust. This Trust runs schools, a library and a spacious Dharamshala (Rest House), the best in Old Delhi. It also runs various programs to help the poor and needy. This building is spread over an area of 9000 sq. ft. and has beautiful white marble stairs leading upto the main prayer hall and the in-house library. The latter has many rare hand-written manuscripts and religious books. On the walls are framed photographs of renowned freedom fighters who spent a major part of their lives' fighting for India's independence from the British rule. This is the biggest library in Delhi run by any charitable trust.
This Bhawan is used for holding prayer assemblies held by the Jain Munis for short stays.Jain Temples-List
