Aglod Jain Tirth is a revered Jain pilgrimage site located in Aglod village, near Vijapur in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, India. Aglod Jain Tirth stands as a testament to Jain devotion and architectural excellence, offering a tranquil retreat for pilgrims and visitors alike.
Historical Significance
The original temple in Aglod had fallen into disrepair over time. In 1984 CE (Vikram Samvat 2041), under the guidance of Acharya ShrimedVijaybahuvansurisvarji and his disciples, the temple underwent significant renovations. This effort transformed it into a prominent temple in North Gujarat.
Architectural Features
The renovated temple measures 130 feet in length and 82 feet in width, with its pinnacle reaching a height of 53 feet. The main sanctum is a square area of 11 feet. The temple complex also includes a small shrine dedicated to Manibhadravir, where a headless idol of Manibhadravir was installed on the fifth day of the bright half of the month of Magh in Vikram Samvat 1733.
Additional Temples in Aglod
In addition to the main temple, Aglod village is home to two other Jain temples, one of which is known as the "Glass Temple." The village is situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River and was historically known as Agatsyapuri, named after the sage Agastya. Lord Rama is believed to have visited Agastya Muni's ashram on Agatsya Tekri near the river.
