Respecting the Host Country : A Rational Perspective

In today’s interconnected world, people travel to foreign countries for various reasons-education, employment, business, or personal growth. While it is natural to have personal expectations based on the country of origin, it is important to remember that every nation has its own laws, governance, and societal norms.
If someone has lawfully entered a country after obtaining the necessary visa and permissions, it implies an agreement to abide by the rules, customs, and systems of that country. If, however, the host country does not function as per the expectations of one’s homeland, the most reasonable and dignified course of action is to return to one's own country rather than engage in conflicts, protests, or disruptive activities.
Constructive Channels for Expression
If an individual disagrees with political, religious, or societal aspects of a foreign nation, there are appropriate ways to voice concerns: Writing articles, expressing views on platforms like newspapers, journals, or television, Approaching institutions like the United Nations, Human Rights Commissions, or other diplomatic bodies to highlight concerns in a structured manner. These approaches ensure that one’s voice is heard without breaking the laws of a host country or jeopardizing their own future.
Stigmatization, which may affect global mobility in the future
Recently, there has been an increasing trend of protests by foreigners in various parts of the world, leading to diplomatic tensions and strained relations between countries. This is an unfortunate and avoidable situation.
Examples of Such Situations
Student Protests in the UK & USA: International students engaging in political demonstrations have faced visa cancellations and deportations, losing their right to education in prestigious institutions.
Workplace Protests in the Middle East: Employees from foreign countries participating in labor strikes and political protests have been immediately deported, with lifetime bans imposed.
Religious & Political Movements in Europe: Some foreign groups have attempted to influence political or religious narratives, leading to surveillance, restrictions, and in some cases, forced repatriation.
This message is not directed at any particular country, community, or religious group. It is a universal principle emphasizing the importance of being a responsible guest in a foreign land. Respecting the laws and customs of a host country is not just a legal obligation but a mark of wisdom and maturity. If one strongly disagrees with how a country functions, the best course of action is to return home and voice concerns through appropriate platforms rather than risk their future by engaging in disruptive activities.
