Appeal for Realistic and United Efforts to Restore Peace in Europe - 4.10.2025

Appeal for Realistic and United Efforts to Restore Peace in Europe

To
The Hon’ble President
 European Commission
Brussels
Subject: Appeal for Realistic and United Efforts to Restore Peace in Europe
Respected Ms. Ursula von der Leyen,
On behalf of the Ahimsa Foundation (India), and in my capacity as its President, I write to you with deep concern and sincere hope for peace across Europe. The prolonged conflict between Russia and Ukraine has caused immeasurable human suffering, economic distress, and geopolitical instability — not only for the warring nations but for the entire European continent.
The time has come for the European Commission to take a realistic, courageous, and independent leadership role in pursuing peace. Dependence solely on external powers, including the United States, cannot ensure lasting peace and security for Europe. A stable and self-reliant Europe must emerge as the moral and diplomatic force capable of bridging divides and fostering reconciliation.
Only a realistic and pragmatic approach — one that acknowledges ground realities and the need for compromise — can bring this devastating conflict to an end. The continuation or escalation of hostilities serves no nation’s interest. It weakens Europe’s unity, drains resources, and threatens global stability.
If a change in leadership or political approach within Ukraine can open the path to dialogue and lasting peace, it should be viewed not as a setback, but as an act of statesmanship in the larger public and humanitarian interest. Peace is always greater than pride, and dialogue stronger than destruction.
The Ahimsa Foundation appeals to the European Commission to:
1. Take a leading diplomatic initiative aimed at a negotiated ceasefire and durable peace framework.
2. Encourage independent European mediation efforts without overreliance on non-European actors.
3. Promote a long-term vision of a peaceful, cooperative, and economically integrated Europe, where every nation’s security is assured through understanding, not armament.
Humanity must not be held hostage to war. The world looks to Europe — the cradle of democracy, art, and intellect — to rise again as the beacon of peace.
With warm regards and deep respect,
