Padam Bhushan Dalsukh Bhai Malavaniya
Shri Malavaniya, hailing from Gujarat, has been an eminent and multi-faceted personality and a doyen of Jain religion and culture. He held a special position amongst celebrated pandits of Jain, Buddha and Vedic philosophy and literature. He carried out translations and editing work of several Jain epics in cooperation with Pandit Sukh Lal Ji at Varanasi. He worked as Director of Parshwa Nath Institute at Varanasi, an unique institution for the study and research in jainism. Shri Malavaniya received President award for his contribution to Jain philosophy and culture and his works in Prakrit and Sanskrit. He was later awarded Padam Bhushan for his contribution to Jain, Buddha and Vedic literature. He also held the coveted post of Director of the L. D. Institute of Indology at Ahemedabad for many years where many important works on Jainism were produced under his able guidance and the Institute won great name and fame at international level during his tenure. Recently, after a brief illness, he breathed his last. May his soul rest in peace.
