Munigiri Jain Tirth - Bh. Kunthnath
Karendey, Tamil Nadu
Location : 15 Kms From Kanchipuram-Village Karendey
A grand artistic statue of Bhagwan Kunthunath is existing here. This place was the sacred grove of Jain Saints in the third century. A. D. Donations were given to this temple by so many Kings like Raj-rajchol, Rajendra Chol etc. The King of Vijaynagar Shri Krishnadev Rai and Randevrai had also donated land for this temple. The Pilgrimage was very opulent and grandeur till thirteen century. The idols of Tirthankar Parshvanath, Mahaveer and Adinath are available at this place. There is a big library "Dharam Sagar" of sacred books. Some books are on palm leaves.
This place is called 'Munigiri' because of being sacred groove of many famous ascetics. It was the sacred place of famous Jainacharya Aklanka who got victory in discussions with Buddha alms. An Idol of Acharya is existing in the temple of Bhagwati Ambika Mata.
