LORD PARSHWANATH - PENUKONDA

Main Idol
Idol of Bhagawan Parshwanatha in the Kayotsarga posture. 

Antiquity
The bhagwan Prahwanatha Jain temple here is very ancient and the idol of Parshwanatha (11 and 12C AD) is a unique of its kind. Devotees from diffrent parts of Karnataka visit this place. Along with the idol of bhagwan Parshwanatha we can find many other Jain idols. 

Temples
The Parashvanatha Temple has a shrine dating back to the 12 C – 13 C Hoysala era. This temple consists of a Jain sculpture depicting a naked Jain savior , standing in front of an undulating serpent. Nearby are the twin temples of Lord Rama and Lord Shiva. There are carvings depicting Ramayana and Krishna legends on the Rama temple and scenes from Shaiva mythology on the Shiva temple. Monuments - Adjacent to the twin temples is a courtly monument, called Gaganmahal, dating back to the period when Penukonda served as the capital during reign of the Aravidu rulers. 

Direction & Accommodation 
Penukonda is situated in the Ananthpur district of Andhra Pradesh. Good transport facilities are available to this place from Ananthpur. Penukonda is 27kms southeast of Puttaparthi and 74kms from Anantapur by road. The nearest rail head is Anathapur. There can be stayed in hotels in Ananthapur. The boarding and lodging facilities are also available at the Dharmashala inside the compound of the temple.
