Papora Tirth - Madhya Pradesh

Surrounded by many large trees, the area has 107 magnificent Digambar temples of around 12 to 20th century. One of the temple is 70 feet in height and beautifully carved. Indian Republic President Dr. Rajendraparad had visited the place and expressed very high opinion. 

Main Idol -Nearly 30 inches high, black colored idol of Bhagawan Adinatha in the Padmasana posture.

History- Previously called by the name Pampapur, Papora is called as the city of temples. The temple of Bhagawan Adinatha was renovated in the year 1718 of the Vikrama era. We can find the inscriprions of the twelfth century on most of the idols here. This tells us about the historical importance of the place. A thick forest spread around this place, is called Ramanta (Ramaranya). It is said that many miracles have taken place in this place. A well by name 'Patarakhan' found at Papora is said to be very miraculous. Many devotees believe that on taking a bath with the water of this well they can cure their diseases. As a whole we can find 107 temples at this place. The idol of Prathima Chandraprabha Bhagawan at temple no. 42 is said to be very miraculous. A fair is held here every year from the thirteenth to the fifteenth day of the bright half of the month of Kartik. In this fort there are 108 temples with large pinnacles and of various inscriptions.

Guidance-Papora is situated on the Tikamgadh - Jabalpur highway at a distance of 5 kms from Tikamgadh. Jhansi is at a distance of 96 kms and Lalitpur is situated at adistance of 58 Kms from Papora. Buses and private vehicles are available. The boarding and lodging facilities are available in the 4 Dharmashalas at Papora.
