FREE SURGERY CAMP FOR POLIO PATIENTS IN INDIA
Mahavir International, a non-Governmental institution for providing
medical relief to the needy people organized a free surgery camp for patients
suffering from Polio in the age group of 5 to 21 years at Jodhpur in Rajasthan
from 6th to 8th February, 2001. About 1200 children from various parts of
Rajasthan registered themselves for the treatment.
Dr. Adi Narayan Rao, from Vishakhapattanam, who has earned international name
and fame for his great devotion and contribution in the field of Polio
eradication in India through latest surgical methods along with his expert team
of 16 doctors performed operations on 300 children, all with full success.
The programme was supported by Social Development Department of the State
Government of Rajasthan as well as by many private organizations and
individuals. According to Dr. Rao, there are about 70,000 people in
India who are suffering from this disease and most of them are from poor class.
