The great saint Acharya Mahapragya walked on foot for 1 lakh k.m. throughout the country to establish communal harmony and to develop moral values among crores of people. At present His Holiness is leading the 4 thousand k.m. long Ahimsa Yatra aiming for the development of non-violence and communal harmony. He gave his historic contribution for the end of communal violence and establishing communal harmony, brotherhood and peace in the land of Gujarat. The founder of Preksha Meditation and Science of Living, Acharya Mahapragya is well known throughout the world as a great thinker and an original writer of 200 books. The specialties of his literature is that in his writing not only the problems of the world are pointed out, but also the solutions to the national and international problems can also be found. The solutions are not merely based on theory or imagination but on the scientific and practical level. The Preksha Meditation is proved to be very valuable in the Medical and Educational field. On the 31st October 2003 Acharya Mahapragya was given 'Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration' for the year 2002. The great thinker Acharya Mahapragya was born on 14th June, 1920 in the village of Tamkor in the district of Jhunjhnu in Rajasthan. At the age of 10, sacrificing all the worldly pleasures, he became a saint through the eighth Acharya of Jain Terapanth Religious Sect, Acharya Kalugani. On 12th November 1978 in view of his halloes vision, intellect and genius, Achaya Tulsi endowed Muni Nathmal with the qualitative epithet of "Mahapragya" and on 4th February 1979, his appellation 'Mahapragya' was converted into his new name and he was also made 'Yuvacharya', the successor designate to the present Acharya, the second highest position after the Acharya himself For his exceptional and sustained contribution to the cause of 'Jain Yoga' the epithet of 'Jain Yoga Ke Punruddharak' (reviver or resurresctor of Jain Yoga) was also conferred on him. He gave his contribution as 'Yuvacharya' for long 15 years. In a mammoth public meeting on 18th February 1994, Anuvrat Anushasta Tusli declared that Mahapragya would now have the title of 'Acharya' and that the former was renouncing this position forthwith. Subsequently on 5th February, 1995 Mahapragya was formally consecrated as the 10th Acharya (the Supreme Head) of Terapanth religious order in a big public meeting in Delhi. It is an unprecedented event of history where a renowned, talented and competent Acharya suo-moto abdicted his position in his own life-time and entrusted it to his successor. Muni Lokprakash 'Lokesh', Muni Virendra Kumar, Muni Kumud Kumar, Muni Akshay Kumar, Muni Mangal Prakash, Executives of Akhil Bharatiya Anuvrat Nyas, Terapanthi Sabha, Terapanth Yuvak Parishad, Terapanth Mahila Mandal, Anuvrat Mahasamiti have expressed their views after the announcement of the award. According to them it is appropriate that Acharya Mahapragya, has been choosen for "Communal Harmony Award".
