Annual Report

2002-2003

Dear Sir

It is my privilege to present the third annual report of Ahimsa Foundation to the board of trustees, patrons and the distinguish members of the Jain society. First of all I thank the members of the board for their enthusiastic cooperation and unconditional support to our projects, which has placed this foundation in illustrious position. We look forward to your continued patronage and guidance.

Our internet portal www.jainsamaj.org has been successful in deeply penetrating in the minds of Jains all over the world. To a good extent the portal is being accepted for its unbiased approach towards all the Jain sects, which we feel, is our major success. The number of visits (hits) received on the portal are constantly increasing which is evident from the volume of data transfer on the server. Country wise analysis shows that more than 25% data transfer is from United States followed by several other countries. Unidentified locations account for 40% of the traffic. The circulation of Ahimsa Times has crossed over 85000 email copies. Posting these copies has caused several problems but till now we have been able to successfully handle it. Since the posting involves very large quantity of data transfer we may have to look for some alternative arrangement shortly. In June, Ahimsa Times is completing its three years of existence.

Response to other information sections and directories of the web portal is also highly encouraging. Members directory has received more than 3000 new members during the year. Matrimonial directory received over 650 entries but it is regrettable that most of the candidates have not sent the requisite fee of Rs. 850/-. About 270 entries have been deleted at request and we presume all these candidates have been successful in settling their life partners.

The idea of global Jain business directory has not worked to ours expectation as so far only 300 entries are enrolled during the first year. Keeping in view, ours is primarily a business community we were expecting it to do better. During the year hundreds of pages have been added in other sections like temples, literature, celebrities, saints, institutions, children etc. on the portal. Month wise details of new additions were made available to readers of the Ahimsa
Times. A new section "Interviews" is added during the year. Acharya Mahapragya and Shri Dilip Gandhi, Minister of Shipping were interviewed during the year.

During the last year we were also distributing "Jain Spirit" worldwide, but due to limitations of time it was not possible for us to continue with this project. We are thankful to Dr. Atul Shah, editor Jain Spirit who always supported us in all possible ways in promoting the objectives of the Ahimsa Foundation.

Ahimsa Foundation strongly believes in projecting the entire Jain society from one single stage and therefore when Mr. Arun Jain, chairman, Polaris Software Limited was arrested in Indonesia on account of a commercial dispute, Ahimsa Foundation took the immediate lead to offer him moral support on behalf of entire Jain community. Due to this hundreds of Jains all over the world instantly responded and emailed their concern to the Prime Minister of India and President of Indonesia.

During the year Ahimsa Foundation contributed a sum of Rs. 2100.00 to Navjeevan Sansthan, Jodhpur (www.navjeewansansthan.org) which is doing an exemplary job in handling new born babies disowned by their parents and a sum of Rs. 71,000.00 to Foundation for Applied Research in Cancer, 32/34 Mehrauli Qutub Institutional Area, New Delhi. We are also thankful to our trustee Dr. Sulekh Jain for his contribution of Rs. 11,000.00 during this year in addition to Rs. 50,000.00 contributed earlier. We also express our gratitude towards Dr. Praveen Shah, Mr. Sudhir Jain, Mr. L. L. Achha, Mr. Rajendra Jain, Mr. Satyesh Bhandari, Mr. Nilesh Jain, Mr. Amit Jain, Mr. Pradeep Jain, Prof. Pradeep Phaltane, Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, Dr. T. J. Salgia, Mrs. Jayshree Khadkiwala, Mr. Rajesh Jain, Mr. Kishan Sharma, Mr. Virendra Gohil, Ms. Isha Gamlath and all others distinguished members for their literary contributions and information.

In future, the foundation would like to spread its activities and undertake its own projects with your support and guidance. We look forward to your suggestions, which will definitely help the foundation in serving the society.

With Regards
