INTERACTION IS THE KEY FOCUS FOR DEVELOPING FUTURE WOMEN
Entrepreneurship is crucial to development of a country.
There is a management institution that says its USP as development of
entrepreneurship that too among women - and the college asserts it
is the right step in the direction of women empowerment. Visioned by renowned public administrator or Rajasthan Shri

and
retired IAS officer Shri K.L. Kochar, Shri A.V. Jain Girls College
Sriganganagar focuses on developing entrepreneurship qualities in
girls during MBA programme. Although the students are given,
specialization in Information technology, marketing, finance, HRD,
(as is done in most institutions), and the institution organizes entrepreneurship development camps and
interaction programmes with
entrepreneurs. STED project of the Govt. of Rajasthan has come
forward to organize a few camps at Sriganganagar in the institute.
The College conducts two-year full time MBA Programme
affiliated to MDS University Ajmer and approved by AICTE, New Delhi.
The College regularly invites CEOs, Senior Executives to its campus for interaction with its students.
In the recent past it invited
leading wool industrialist Mr. K.C. Bothra, leading finance expert from Thailand Mr.
S.L. Dugar, the CEO of Sears India and Jt.Secretary of Delhi Exporters Association Mr.
V.C. Bhabhu, finance executive of India's leading steel company - Ispat Industries Ltd.
Mr. N.K. Lohia and many other senior executives to its campus. It
soon plans to invite Mr. D.R. Mehta, Chairman of SEBI, Mr. M.L. Bohra, CFO of STC and other leading experts to its
campus. The
institute lays strong emphasis on Indian ethos also - which makes the
institute different from other institute. The day starts with prayers at the institute and it ends with
group discussions. The institute
lays emphasis on information technology.
"Our institute encourages entrepreneurship skill development among its students and for
that the institute regularly organizes
entrepreneurship development programmes. It regularly invites
entrepreneurs and CEOs of SSIs to interact with its students. This
enables its students to inculcate the skills of entrepreneurship. This would go a long
way in women empowerment in the region "-
asserts Dr. Trilok Kumar, director of the institute.
Rajasthan, which has given a large number of entrepreneurs,
has now a business school, which proposes to develop women
entrepreneurs and women executives. However, it is admitted by the Director and Faculty of
the institute that the institute, though well
known in management circles at international level, has very low recognition at its home state. Very
few persons are aware about this
management institution in Rajasthan.
THE SHY GIRLS NOW FACE CROWD ASSERTIVELY AND MAKE PUBLIC PRESENTATION AT SRIGANGANAGAR
A typical girl of northwestern Rajasthan is shy and avoids
public speaking - presentations etc. However, MBA programme can
change them in a short time and make them assertive confident and career oriented - that is
proved by MBA students of Shri A.V. Jain
Girls College Sriganganagar. The college started its programme in January 2001 (the session was
started late -as it is the first year).
The girls (who took admission through open admissions) belonged to
areas like Rawatsar, Anupgarh, Hanumangarh, Sangaria, Padampur, Kesarisinghpur and were not even able to communicate in English.
Considering the language problem of girl students from Rajasthan, the institute conducted language-training
classes for its
students in the first month of the programme and encouraged the
students to participate and deliver seminars. The students of this institute usually give five
seminars in the course of two years.
Whereas teaching is restricted to 5-6 hours in other management institutions, this institution
has 9 hours working at its
campus for the students. The timings of the institute are from 9 am to 6 p.m. The students participate in
seminars / case discussions /
group discussions / simulations etc. which are held daily in the afternoon. Further,
the students spend one day in a week in
developing solutions for industries. A number of industries are giving projects
and assignments to the students of this institution.
Recently the students at the institute prepared MIS package for
Sriganganagar Zila Dugdh Utpadak Sahakari Sangh Ltd. The students have also prepared inventory
management package for Rajasthan Tools
Ltd. Jodhpur. The students of this institute are also working for Bharat Sanchar Nigam ltd. in
popularizing Internet among rural areas
in Northern Rajasthan. Many students went out to different parts of
country like Jaipur, Delhi etc. - all alone for the first time in their life - for
their summer training. These students are now
completely changed for their family, as they are now ready to face the world with an
assertive and positive stand. The institute has another distinctive feature in social
orientation. The institute believes that which the students study
books written by foreign authors, visualize business models suited for multinational companies, they should
also be close to their
mother land. Therefore, the students in this institute have to undertake some socially
relevant projects.
INDIAN MANAGEMENT COURSE WITH WESTERN BOOKS AND GUIDANCE AT SRIGANGANAGAR
MBA Programmes are copied from the west. However, Shri A.V. Jain Girls College puts
Indian context in bold for its students. The
students here take Gita as a learning book and undertake meditation,
swadhyaya to find Indian ethos hidden in them. In order to inculcate a deep appreciation for Indian context, the institute regularly
organizes such events where the students brainstorm on Indian social
and economical problems and work in the direction of solving these
problems. The institute believes that the best management education
is still centralized in USA and a few management institutions in
India. Therefore, the institute maintains contacts with international scholars in the field and gives books
written by foreign authors to
its students. However, to supplement these, case studies in Indian
context are also given to the students. Fortunately for this institute, international
scholars have openly come forward to support
this institute. Internationally renowned Prof. Shyam Lodha of Southern Connecticut State University, Prof. Anjani Jain of
Wharton
Business School, Prof. Sanjay Jain of George Washington University, and Prof. Anil Jain of Michigan State University are supporting this
institute. The institute is also fortunate that the best of
management experts available in the region are helping it. Shri M.L. Mehta, management expert and former Chief Secretary, Govt. of
Rajasthan, Shri K.L. Kochar, Retired Senior IAS officer, Prof. Vijay
Shankar Vyas, Prof. Udai Pareek are some of the persons who are members of its advisory
body. Shri M.L. Mehta and Shri K.L. Kochar
regularly visit this institute and inspire the students and faculty.
SRIGANGANAGAR MBA COLLEGE TO LAUNCH ITS INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL ON MANAGEMENT
Shri A.V. Jain Girls College, Sriganganagar is soon to bring out its international journal on
Management. The institute has on the
editorial review board eminent management scholars from the world like renowned Prof. Shyam Lodha of Southern Connecticut State
University, Prof. Anjani Jain of Wharton Business School, Prof. Sanjay Jain of George
Washington University, and Prof. Anil Jain of
Michigan State University. Scholars from different universities of
the world have contributed their papers in the forthcoming journal Prof. William B. Morgan of Felician College, USA has written article
on 360 Degree appraisal, while Dr. Atul Dhingra of C.C.S University,
Hisar has written a paper on M. Commerce and Dr. J.P. Sharma of Rajasthan University has contributed on Indian
Management Philosophy.
